Serving Salem

Police Blue Bar

In an atmosphere of disorder and chaos, true freedom can never exist; that is the primary reason for the foundation and existence of the Salem Police Department. We are truly servants of our citizens.

In addition to its main objective of policing, the Salem Police Department extends its service in many ways. This includes the D.A.R.E. program in our schools, Citizens Academy, Crime Prevention, and participation in the Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy.

The D.A.R.E. program is a way that the officers of the Department can create a positive relationship with the young citizens by working and interacting with the children in our schools. The Citizens Academy educates people on various aspects of each unit within the department. The Officers and Civilian employees strive to maintain their high standards of service in part by continuing their education, as well as assisting other localities with instruction, through the Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy.

Project LifeSaver

Project Lifesaver is the premier search and rescue program operated internationally by public safety agencies, and is strategically designed for "at risk" individuals who are prone to the life-threatening behavior of wandering. The primary mission of Project Lifesaver is to provide timely responses to save lives and reduce potential injury for adults and children with the propensity to wander due to a cognitive condition. If you would like to find out more information about Project Lifesaver contact the Services Division at 540-375-3083.
